Muthal Pakkam, also marketed as Chennai Files: Muthal Pakkam, is a 2025 Tamil crime thriller written and directed by Anish Ashraf. The film stars Vetri and Shilpa Manjunath in the lead roles, with Thambi Ramaiah, Redin Kingsley, Magesh Das, and Nayana Sai in supporting roles.
The film was released in theaters on August 1, 2025, and later became available on digital streaming platforms, including Aha Video and Prime Video, from October 17, 2025.
Story
The story follows Prabhu, the son of a famous crime novelist. After traveling to Chennai for a media interview about his late father, Prabhu unexpectedly becomes involved in a mysterious murder investigation.
During his stay in the city, Prabhu meets police inspector Ramaiah, who is also a huge admirer of his father’s crime novels. Prabhu’s sharp observation and investigative abilities soon become evident when he helps Ramaiah solve a complicated murder case.
Impressed by Prabhu’s deductions, Ramaiah asks him to assist with a much more dangerous investigation involving a series of mysterious murders.
As the investigation progresses, Prabhu and Ramaiah begin uncovering clues that point towards a calculated serial killer. The killer appears to be driven by revenge, making the case increasingly complicated and dangerous.
Plot
Muthal Pakkam combines crime investigation, mystery, suspense, and revenge.
Prabhu’s knowledge of crime fiction, gained from years of reading his father’s novels, becomes an unexpected advantage during the investigation. Although he is not a police officer, his ability to connect clues and identify patterns helps Ramaiah move closer to the truth.
As more murders occur, the investigation becomes a race against time. Prabhu, Ramaiah, and a reporter work together to uncover the killer’s identity and understand the motive behind the crimes.
The central mystery revolves around who is behind the murders, why the killings are taking place, and what connects the victims.
